Two Cousins is a third generation seafood business originally started in the early thirties by two fishermen (cousins) who had just arrived from Trieste, a city and seaport in northern Italy. The business started as a simple fish packing facility for local fishing boats that would ship their catch daily into the Fulton Fish Market. They also thought about selling the local catch to the public, hence the retail store “Two Cousins” was opened on Woodcleft Canal “The Nautical Mile”.
In 1970 the present owners bought the business and started buying and selling truckloads of fish and shellfish up and down the east coast. As the supplies of local fish started to dwindle they started a local wholesale seafood business selling a full line of seafood to restaurants, corporate food service, grocery stores and other fish stores. They would buy the items they needed for their customers in the Fulton Fish Market while they dropped off the local catch to the Fulton Market. As the local fish supply diminished Two Cousins reached out and bought, sold and imported large quantities of fresh and frozen seafood to other distributors and bulk buyers. Two Cousins was able to offer better quality and pricing to their customers because of their large volume of buying and selling.
In 1998 the Wholesale operation was moved into a larger nearby facility while maintaining the retail store on the "Nautical Mile" which is open 7 days a week. Woodcleft Canal “The Nautical Mile” was once dominated from end to end by commercial fishing boats but today there are only two operating commercial docks left. One of these is located behind Two Cousins Fish Market. Our growth and expansion over the years can be attributed to the same philosophy that was established years ago and has continued to today. We strive to save our customers on their everyday seafood cost and still provide them with a top quality product.
